Summer School x Two

Hi Everyone

Firstly, I'd like you to meet our newest staff member.

This is Maria.  She has been installed in the classroom to keep the cool.

SUMMER SCHOOL UPDATE

Summer School is well and truly up and running.  Here are the classroom photos.

SARAH FIELKE
A WING AND A PRAYER QUILT

 The eagles have landed.

Sarah will be teaching more workshops at Quiltsmith, (we hope to have her for a regular monthly class).

Here are some of her other quilts.

Yum.

This is a sneak peek at a quilt in Sarah's new book that is about to be published.

LYNNE ALCHIN
THE WELSH GYPSY
DAY ONE

This is Marj's, yes she arrived with her centre already made.

Lynne's beautiful Welsh Gypsy quilt.

LINDA BUTCHER
TEA CADDY PARADE
DAY TWO

We have had a huge response to Linda's fabulous applique quilt.  We have another workshop booked for February, but it is already full.  We will be running a third Workshop, in April, we think.  If you are interested please call and we can take your details and get back to you once the date is firmed up.

MARGARET SAMPSON GEORGE
BIRDS EYE VIEW

Here is Margaret's Bird's Eye View quilt, yes she is still playing with the borders.

I unfortunately don't have any photos of Margaret Light's Kantha embroidery class, as I had the camera up in the Blue Mountains.  I've been told the work was beautiful.

KAREN CUNNINGHAM'S SUMMER SCHOOL AT BLACKHEATH

Karen kindly invited me up to be a shop, and to give the after dinner speech, at her annual Summer School, last Saturday.

Let me tell you it was two days of weird weather.  It has been hot lately; but driving up to Blackheath last Friday, with a full load of fabric on board, was interesting.  I was a bit worried about the tyres melting when the temperature outside reached 45 degrees;  and, may I add the mountains do heating not air-conditioning.  The things you learn.

Yes this all came out of my car.

Congratulations to Karen, the Summer School was  great.  Some familiar faces and a lot of interstate quilters to meet.

We had a wonderful meal at the Paragon in Katoomba.  You must visit this iconic cafe.
Just look at the cocktail lounge.

He was really playing the pianio.

The theme of the dinner was Vintage.  I spoke about my collection of antique quilts.

Karen and I dressed for the event.

After all the heat on Friday, it rained, misted, fogged and was cold.  This was a wardrobe disaster, who expects 45 degrees on the way up the mountains and 14 degrees on the way down. This was  how the park looked when we packed up the shop on Saturday afternoon.

The fog was much thicker that night, and the next day.

See you next week with more Summer School shots.

Wer'e Back and Summer School is Happening

Hi and Happy New Year to Everybody.
I hope you all had a nice and hopefully productive break, and; that no-one has melted in this hot weather we all seem to be having.

SUMMER SCHOOL KICKS OFF

Linda Butcher's Tea Caddy Parade quilt was a big hit.  This is the first of her two day workshop.

Here is her finished  (well almost) quilt.

Fashion designing?

The start.

The care.

The class.

A three legged elephant.

Anne Sommerlad's Daintree class was today.

Here is one made "IN A DAY" , that's pretty good.

MY NON-ACHIEVEMENTS OVER THE BREAK

I always see the Christmas break as my time to sew.  I take over the classroom, and drag up the machine and sew.  It can be the only time I connect with the sewing machine all year.  All was good.  Finished with all the family Christmas and New Year stuff.  My goal was to sew the cover quilt from Kaffe Fasset's Quilts in Sweden book.  I fell in love with the quilt when he was here, gosh now two years ago.

Came in on the 2nd and cut fabric all day ready to start sewing the next day.  Ate some lunch at about 3.00 pm and then had a wonderful dose of food poisoning.  I am truly grateful to both modern medicine and my GP who saw me the next morning, jabbed and gave me antibiotics; and a letter to Casualty if I needed to go on a drip.  I decided this did not have to happen.  Sadly I didn't get back to the sewing machine.  So here is a picture of my entire holiday achievement.  Try again at Easter.

I did on the other hand get quite a bit of Aunty Green done.  See you can hand applique in front of the telly, no matter how terrible you feel.
