RENOVATIONS

Hi Everyone

I'm being chased to post a blog as I have been quite too long.

All is well. I had a lovely time on Norfolk Island with Michelle Yeo.  She launched her new book, "Of Needle, Thimble and Thread" at the Nante Quilt Show in France last week.  I can't wait to hear all about it.

While I was away we did have a bit of a disaster in the shop.  Apparently it rained, and the shop leaked and I'm now dealing with the aftermath of that.

More excitingly, my long anticipated building of new shelf space has started. In the way this always seems to happen, my landlord has started doing some serious maintenance work on the building.  So I've been busy.

We are still open for business, but we are preparing to move every bolt in the shop.

Here are some photos.

All the staff are feeling a bit like this.

WHAT'S NEW

I have no idea but there is a lot of it.

Drowning.

Anne Sommerlad's Triple Treat Retreat

Hi Everyone

WHAT'S NEW

New French General fabrics, 40 of them.  Michelle Yeo, teacher and author from Melbourne likes them.  She is visiting the shop today, as tomorrow Michelle and I are off the Norfolk Island for 10 days.  Michelle is the tutor at this year's Quilt Norfolk.  I'm going to help carry the fabrics!!!

Michelle is coming to Quiltsmith for three days of classes at the end of July.  All details will be revealed when I'm back from Norfolk.  Ring the shop (02 9550 4947) if you would like to go on the Expression of Interest list for Michelle's classes (25 - 27 July).

JAMBEROO UPDATE

I went down to Jamberoo, last Monday, as promised.  Things are happening.  Here is a photo of how the rooms will look, and the bathrooms.  (Remember it is still a construction site, but I liked what I saw.)

The brown is gone.

ANNE'S TRIPLE TREAT RETREAT

Last weekend I was up at Blackheath, in a wonderful shroud of mist and drizzel, so nice after all the humidity in Sydney, that just carries on and on this year.

Anne Sommerlad invited me to be one of the trade tables at her inaugural Retreat.  I want to congratulate Anne on one of the best run events I have been to.  About 70 lucky ladies (next year your challenge is to get the men sewing) were treated to three days of intensive skill learning workshops.

Here are some photos.  I will apologize now, the light in the hall made all my photos go a strange green.  It wasn't like that in the hall.

Anne take a bow.  Anne teaches regularly at Quiltsmith.

This is Anne with Rachel and Petal, who also taught, with the Rotary team who kept everybody feed and watered in great style.

A daily raffle raised a significant amount for Interplast (who I must admit I  have not heard of before).  This is a Rotary supported not-for-profit organisation, which sends Australian and New Zealand medical teams into various locations in the Asia Pacific, to perform life changing surgery on people with disabilities as a result of congenital or acquired medical conditions such as cleft lip.  The power of quilters is incredible, well over $1000 was raised.

Quiltsmith Retreat Update and Camille Roskelley Workshop

Hi Everyone

Sorry it's been awhile, but I just can't seem to get time at the computer at the moment.  Anyway, this is just a short post.

WHAT'S NEW

I mentioned that I went to the Gift Fair last month.  Another delivery has arrived, they are sort of fabric related, but soooo cute.

Great retro stripes.

QUILTSMITH RETREAT UPDATE

Quite a number of you have been asking what's happening with this year's Retreat.

We have a booking back at Jamberoo!!!

FRIDAY 16 - SUNDAY 18 MAY

A little history.  Our retreat has always been at the Jamberoo Valley Lodge, up until last year, when we were forced to find a new location, when the Lodge was sold.

Everybody just loves the location, it is so peaceful and the room so good for sewing.  The new owners are re-furbishing.  I'm not sure what that involves, but I'm going down to have a look next week, and make sure that all our quilting and culinary needs are taken care of.  At this date I have not received a final costing from the Lodge, so cannot give you a final price for the weekend, but it is in line with my expectations.

We already have a list of regulars who have booked.  So please feel free to ring and book a room.  We will confirm with you once the final price is sorted.

AVALON QUILTERS - 2014 SHOW

Last Saturday I had the pleasure of escaping the shop and visiting the Avalon Quilt Show.  This is one of my favorite group Quilt Shows.  As always, it was inspirational to walk around all the quilts.  Avalon Quilters support The Australian Mitochondrial Disease Foundation, a very worth while cause.

Here are some pictures.  Thank you to the Avalon girls.
