Quiltsmith Retreat Update and Camille Roskelley Workshop

Hi Everyone

Sorry it's been awhile, but I just can't seem to get time at the computer at the moment.  Anyway, this is just a short post.

WHAT'S NEW

I mentioned that I went to the Gift Fair last month.  Another delivery has arrived, they are sort of fabric related, but soooo cute.

Great retro stripes.

QUILTSMITH RETREAT UPDATE

Quite a number of you have been asking what's happening with this year's Retreat.

We have a booking back at Jamberoo!!!

FRIDAY 16 - SUNDAY 18 MAY

A little history.  Our retreat has always been at the Jamberoo Valley Lodge, up until last year, when we were forced to find a new location, when the Lodge was sold.

Everybody just loves the location, it is so peaceful and the room so good for sewing.  The new owners are re-furbishing.  I'm not sure what that involves, but I'm going down to have a look next week, and make sure that all our quilting and culinary needs are taken care of.  At this date I have not received a final costing from the Lodge, so cannot give you a final price for the weekend, but it is in line with my expectations.

We already have a list of regulars who have booked.  So please feel free to ring and book a room.  We will confirm with you once the final price is sorted.

AVALON QUILTERS - 2014 SHOW

Last Saturday I had the pleasure of escaping the shop and visiting the Avalon Quilt Show.  This is one of my favorite group Quilt Shows.  As always, it was inspirational to walk around all the quilts.  Avalon Quilters support The Australian Mitochondrial Disease Foundation, a very worth while cause.

Here are some pictures.  Thank you to the Avalon girls.

Our Workshop with Kaffe and Brandon

Hi Everyone

I thought I would share with you some of the fantastic insights into colour and design we witnessed in the shop when Kaffe Fassett and Brandon Mably wove their colour magic in the shop.

We had 15 lucky ladies who played around with Kaffe's Overlapping Tiles quilt from his book Shots and Stripes.

The Overlapping Tiles quilt is really just squares sewn together, but wow just look at the results.  Here are some random photos from the day.

Here is the quilt built to match the clothes (I do it all the time).

I think I could run one of those competitions where you add the captions!  For the two photos above, what would you say!  These two guys are just pure fun and so inspirational, their understanding of colour and design is amazing; and they share that  knowledge freely.

I would like to say thanks to Kaffe and Brandon, to XLN (the fabric wholesaler) for organizing the tour.  To all my staff who worked very hard to set up the classroom and during the workshop.

A day well spent.  I suppose I'll have to make the quilt now... yet another quilt!!!!

Michelle Yeo's - New Book - Of Needle, Thimble & Thread - Is Here

Hi Everyone

MICHELLE YEO'S NEW BOOK IS HERE

OF NEEDLE, THIMBLE and THREAD

Congratulations Michelle.  We love your book.

Michelle will be teaching in the shop 24, 25 & 26 July.

We have no details yet, but if you would like to be involved please ring the shop so we can take your expression of interest.

Here is Michelle seeing her book for the first time.

Just beautiful. This is another great publication from Quilt Mania.

I think we are the first shop to have Michelle book in Australia.  I ordered 20 copies, they arrived on Friday, and we only have 10 copies left.  So that is a testament to how great the book is.

Here are a few pages to whet your appetite.  There are 18 quilt patterns in the book.

The book is on our web-site, under "Books - Antique Quilts", you can order now and try to avoid waiting for our next delivery.
