Hi Everybody

Here is our second week of fussy cut stars and what fun we have had making them.

Slight amendment Margy's stars are 1 1/4" not 1 1/2" as posted last week.

So we can see what fussy cut wonders you can make;  post your stars on Instagram.  Tag them to @aussiequiltsmith and follow us.  We will call them our Instant Stars.  The three of us will be randomly selecting Instant Stars for a little treat from time to time.  So get making your stars.

Di Ford Workshop in September

Di's reputation goes before her.  Lovers of reproduction quilts will be familiar with her beautiful quilt patterns. 

Phoebe, The Morel Quilt the Antique Wedding Sampler and many more. Her recently published book "Primarily Quilts" has been a huge success.

Di will be teaching her new quilt "Sutton Grange"  So new it is not finished yet, so we don't have a complete photo to show you just the teaser photo above, but I've been told it's beautiful.

I will post a better - bigger photo when Di sends one to me.

WHAT'S NEW

Beautiful new collection of washed Japanese indigo prints.  We have 26 bolts of this loveliness.  So if you ever wanted to make an indigo quilt.....

New collection "Weeds" from Me & My Sister.  If you want to grow your stash of black, white and greys will help.

I had to add this photo of some of the repeated Kaffe Fassett and Brandon Mably fabrics that have arrived.  This is actually a quilt top, just strips sewn together.  Stunning.

Introducing Fussy Cut Friday

Hi Everybody

Sorry I've been a bit erratic with the posts lately, but I think I have come up with a solution.  With the help of  Janet and Margy (fantastic members of staff) we will be bringing you Fussy Cut Friday's.  

I must give thanks to the Temecula Quilt Company, California for the idea and name.  I have been in contact with Sheryl, who owns Temecula Quilt Company and we are taking Fussy Cut Friday to the world.  Take a peek at www.temeculaquiltco.blogspot.com and you can follow along from both hemispheres.

FUSSY CUT FRIDAY

Janet and myself are making 2" 60 degree diamond stars.  Margy's are 1 1/2" 60 degree diamonds. We are all just making lots of fussy cut stars.  Challenging each other to get the most out of a fabric.  We have dived into our stashes and dragged out some beauties.  We are also using some of the lovelies that are coming into the shop.  Where we can we will let you know what fabric we have used.

I hear over and over that customer's stashes are weighing heavily on their mind's.  This is the cure, join in with us and re-acquaint yourself with your stash and make your own fussy cut star quilt. You may need a small injection of new fabric as well.

Every Friday, one of us will post some of our stars for inspiration.  I am particularly fascinated by seeing how many different stars you can fussy cut from the same fabric.  So we will show you a few of these, when the fabric allows.

I love the 60 degree diamond star as it forms a hexagon.  Just think of all the layout possibilities.  We will reveal our chosen layouts as we go along.

Here are our first lot of Fussy Cut Friday stars.  I hope you will enjoy them.

Yes are have gone into Reproduction mode here.  You don't need to.  Here are some more contemporary stars.

We have the diamond papers in the shop if you would like to hand piece.  Think about what size you would like and just ring the shop on 02 9550 4947.  This can be machine pieced but we would suggest a large sized diamond.

On a Windy Day in July....

Hi Everyone

The wind is whistling down the street here in Sydney.  I think it's great weather to create quilting wonders and to be inspired.  After the excitement of the Glebe Island Show its nice to slow down put the shop back together and open boxes of new fabrics.

THE GLEBE ISLAND QUILT SHOW

LOVED IT. 

Loved the quilts, loved the venue, loved the light, (even the food was OK).

I took a cab to the venue and back, but everyone I met said they had no problem with transport to Glebe Island.  The ferry from Darling Harbor seemed to be the biggest hit.

This is Jessica Wheelahan's quilt "Errant Geese". Quiltsmith and Dr Annette Gero sponsor "The best Quilt Inspired by an Antique Quilt" prize.  This quilt was this year's winner.  Jessica was inspired by the rigid "Flying Geese" Quilts of the 1800's where all the geese flew in straight lines, one after the other.

I really liked the way you can clearly see the basic Flying Geese blocks in the quilt. Jessica has taken the old and reinterpreted it for today.

This is Jessica and myself.  I had no knowledge that the ribbon for this prize matched my sleeve so perfectly.

Janet Treen is in our Aunty Green Coverlet class with Sure Ross.  I can hardly wait to see that finished.

Glebe Island Quilt Show & Sale Open Sunday 13 July

Hi Everyone

The week before the Darling Harbour Quilt Show - whoops the Glebe Island Quilt Show, is always a bit manic.  So this is a quick catch up for you.

We now have most of the fabric up off the floor.  The shop feels so much bigger, but I still need to clear more floor stock. So I have continued the sale and renamed it   

GLEBE ISLAND QUILT SHOW SALE

The shop is literally 5 minutes away from the Show by cab.  Grab a group of friends, fill up the cab, and come shopping.

We will be opening on the Show Sunday 13 July between 10 and 3, so everyone can see what's in the shop.

MILL ROSE COTTAGE 

 BALLAN  VICTORIA

A gaggle of us had a quilting mini-break in Ballan (near Ballerat) last week.  We went to the Victorian Show and did a bit of quilt shop shopping, as you do.

We stayed at Mill Rose Cottage.  Sue has a set up down there that made my "quilt shop owner heart strings  beat fast".  A beautiful, charming cottage restaurant/cafe, next door to the fabulous Mill Rose Quilt Shop, which is next door to the exquisite completely refurbished B & B.  Which in this case also includes a delicious dinner, all set in beautiful rural Victorian countryside.

There are some things you just can't do in inner-city Sydney and this is one of them.
