Jamberoo Valley - Our Weekend Retreat

Our annual weekend retreat in the beautiful Jamberoo Valley has come and gone for another year.  This year we had 35 ladies and one gentleman along with a huge array of exceptional craftmanship and show and tell.  The food was aplenty and very very good, thanks to the friendly and warm staff at Jamberoo Valley Lodge. 

We sewed through the day and into the night.

Sandra was constructing hexagons and stars.

Our regular retreaters were hard at work. 

The shop was not far away for a browse or those forgotten items.  Although two ladies would have won the quilters shopper award if there had been one!



Dawn and Gayle looked like sisters in their matching outfits, oh that's right they are sisters!

Discussions were had.

Afghans were finished.

Exercise was done (by some)!

And wonderful quilts came out on show. 

 

     



Thanks to everyone who came and made it a wonderful, friendly, happy and (sort of) productive weekend.  See you all again next year.

WE ARE AIRING OUR QUILTS AGAIN

After the huge success of our first Airing of the Quilts last September it’s time to do it again. 

For those of you who missed it last time, for some years now I have wanted to have a “show & tell” of customer’s antique and vintage quilts.  I know a number of us buy old quilts, love them to death but end up putting them away safely in a cupboard.  I know I do that myself. 

So if you have some quilts you would like to share with other quilt collectors, bring them along.  If you just love old quilts but don’t own any, come along too, you may catch the bug.

Bookings are essential for the Airing of the Quilts, as we only have so many chairs, so please ring to book your place, and let us know if you are bringing quilts with you.

Details – Sunday 29 May, 2pm for a 2.30 start

What's happened in the shop this week.

We had the first part of Catherine Butterworth's two day Hexagon Stars Workshop.  Here is the gang.

They were very busy and the blocks being put together made me want to do the Workshop.

We will be running another two day workshop later in the year so if you are interested  please ring the shop as we already have a number of customers who have put their names down.

Today we had Val Moore's monthly class.   They are doing a bit of beautiful hand Broderie Perse. 

 This is Robyn's masterpiece under construction.

Val's quilt is beautiful and it is that most wonderful of all things finished.

Olwyn has created this wonderful Morris vase of flowers.

This is a sneak peek at Shirley's border on her applique quilt.  Look at all the perfect berries!!!!

If you would like to master applique, either hand or machine, then Val's class is for you.  Her class is on the first Friday of the month.  We currently have a few vacancies.  These are the first vacancies we have had for Val's class in over three years so if you are interested please ring the shop.

Civil War blocks update.

Here are Kate's blocks so far, up on the design wall.  She wants to ditch the gold fabric, I say it's great just add some more.

LAST DAYS OF THE SALE

Just a reminder that our 25% off all fabric ends at 4pm this Saturday, 30 April 2011. 

The shop has been looking like this.

And the staff like this.  Marj the fabric is moving before your eyes.  I am growing hopeful that some shelf space will be revealed, but the delivery trucks are arriving daily. 

I hope you all had a great Easter.  I must say the five days roared past me, I spent four of them in the shop but went to the Sydney Royal Easter Show on Good Friday, along with 125,000 other people!!!  I now have had my share of looking at and eating junk for the next few years.  The Craft display was the only ray of light.  My congratulations goes to Maureen T, who won a prize, with the quilt she made here with Sue Ross.

THE FINISHED QUILTS

I always find a finished quilt a wonder.  So in this post we have not a one.

Ross came in with his "finished" Bordered Diamonds quilt.  The binding still needs to be done, but boy is it beautiful.

Jenny from Kiama brought in her Half-Square Triangles top.  It is mind boggling.  See what you can do with all those scraps.  Well done Jenny.

Here are Janet and my Civil War Blocks to date.  This was the first time we had put them together.  They look different from what we imagined.

Janet was trying for a really scrappy look using all colours. It looks more pink and purple.

Mine was to be scrappy but pink.  It looks brown, and if anything else blue!  It is amazing how making blocks in isolation to each other can affect your sense of colour.  We will check up on them again to see how the colours are working as more blocks are added.

A LOT HAS HAPPENED IN THE SHOP THIS WEEK

Just to let you know, we will be closed over the Easter Break.  So if you need to stock up on supplies you need to do it over the next week or so.

The Sale is going great guns, and it has been wonderful to see so many of you in the shop.  We still cannot see the floor, so please keep on coming in.

We have photos from three classes this week.

Firstly, I'd like to welcome Margaret Sampson  George into the Quiltsmith gang.  We had her first class this week and here are some shots of her quilts.  We still have a few spots available, her classes are on the first Tuesday of the month.

Next are student works from Karen Cunningham's Wednesday class.  We are looking at starting up another class for Karen, so if you are interested can you please phone the shop, so we can try to pick a date that suites as many as possible.

Then we had Suzy Miller's Clamshell Workshop.

Here's Janet's finished Clamshell quilt.  I love that it's not in reproduction fabrics.  It reminds me of a tasting plate of gelato ice-creams.

Jenny showed us her beautiful 1930's Log Cabin top. Just so crisp and bright.

Look at this great first quilt of Liz's, it is made completely with our Civil War Reproduction Colour Packs of Fat Eights.

This gave me great encouragement, as my therapy job in the shop for the last few weeks has been making up new Fat Eights packs.  It at times feels like "how any shades of a colour can there be".

But they eventually end up looking like this. 

Helen presented us with her finished Kaffe Fassett Bordered Diamonds quilt.  She has made a wonderfully bright and happy quilt.

We have just managed to put all our Kim Mclean patterns on the web-site.  You can find them in the "Patterns" category.  This is a picture of her beautiful Roseville Album Quilt.
