MICHELLE YEO WORKSHOPS
FRIDAY 25 - 27 JULY
FRIDAY 25 JULY
ONE DAY WORKSHOP
GIANT DAHLIA or NORWALK STAR
We
haven’t done a Giant Dahlia workshop
with Michelle for a few years, so we thought it was time to bring back this
perennial favorite.
An absolutely beautiful quilt which you can make in a
choice of colour placement and sizes.
There are 60”, 45” and 30” finished quilt sizes – a real pleasure to
make.
This quilt can be hand or machine pieced.
Norwalk Star is a reproduction of an antique quilt,
c.1840-1850.
The quilt consists of 13
blocks set on point, each of which features a central star and is completed
with a saw tooth border. The setting and
corner triangles are a variation of the main blocks. A narrow pieced border completes the quilt.
The blocks are foundation pieced but can be
hand pieced as well.
SATURDAY AND SUNDAY 26-27 JULY
TWO DAY WORKSHOP
ST BARNABAS PEARL
or
EUMUNDI COVERLET
St Barnabas Pearl This quilt is
inspired by the mosaic mother of pearl, hand carved inlays set into the pew
ends at St Barnabas Chapel, Norfolk Island. Each inlay is unique. This
magnificent church, circa 1880, is a quilter’s dream in regards to the
inspiration it offers to quilt designers.
Designing this quilt provided an
insight into the complexities faced by designers living in an era which lacked
the technology we have today. Despite this, making ‘St Barnabas’ Pearl uses
modern patchwork techniques including hand and machine piecing, Broderie Perse,
reverse and needle turn appliqué and foundation piecing. Use of these
techniques achieve a beautiful, timeless quilt. It was a joy to design and make
this quilt. The quilt uses a variety of fabrics to achieve controlled
scrappy effect.
Eumundi
Coverlet This
beautiful quilt was inspired by the border print and shows the amazing effects
that can be achieved by fussy cutting.
It was inspired by a teaching challenge for three teachers to each make
their own version of a quilt using the techniques of English Paper Piecing,
applique and template hand piecing.
Perspex can be used in lieu of English papers if preferred.
