Hi Everyone
Sorry about the quite period, but the Quilt Show does me in every year and there is lots of things happening in the shop at the moment, that I will share with you, (as I get them sorted out).
GWEN MARSTON HAS LANDED

ABSTRACT QUILTS IN COLOUR
LECTURE by
GWEN MARSTON
THURSDAY 11 JULY 2013
7pm for 7.30pm
Quilts made in solids have an impressive history. They were the first quilts to be taken seriously as art. In 1971, Amish quilts from the collection of Jonathan Holstein and Gail van der Hoof constituted the first major museum exhibition of quilts shown at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York .
Using her new abstract quilts as examples, Gwen discusses her work in solids and points out some of the great characteristics inherent in solids.
Gwen's work in solids began with studies of Amish quilts and she has continued to work with solids over the past 3 decades. In this lecture Gwen talks about Amish quilts and how they have influenced her work. Gwen discusses her new abstract work in solids and points out some of the great characteristics inherent in solids. The lecture is illustrated with quilts from her book Ideas and Inspirations: Abstract Quilts in Solids.

WHAT'S NEW
A selection.
I have just been warned by a number of warehouses that a large amount of fabric is on its way.
For everyone who has heard the rumour that the 1800 Reproduction Fabrics are on the wan, you are so wrong and I'm about to get the truckloads of fabric to prove it.
THE WINNER
Our congratulations goes to Maree Blanchard who was this years winner of Quiltsmith's and Annette Gero's- Best Reproduction Inspired by an Antique Quilt Award, at the Darling Harbour Quilt Show.
Maree's quilt is graphically stunning. She was inspired by the quilts in the exhibition Infinite Variety - Three Centuries of Red and White in New York. She drafted the pattern herself based on a one inch square grid. In the original quilt only used two fabrics, in Maree's quilt she has used 40 different red fabrics, a subtle but innovative twist on the original. Maree's quilt is hand quilted.

I would like to also congratulate the The Quilter's Guild of NSW Inc. who put on, what I thought was, a marvellous show this year. There were over 400 members quilts in the show, as well as all the special exhibition quilts. Well done to both the Guild organising team and all the Guild members who make the show possible.
THE WHERE WE CAME FROM
Guessing Game
I'm going to keep you guessing, for another day or so. All will be revealed.
